The final Riata Poker Night of 2005 was an exciting one! The entire final table was comprised of rookies and they put on a fight.
Becky started things off by knocking out Nathan Rippstein when she rivered a flush to crack his set of Queens. Jeff would be the next out after getting it all-in preflop against Steve with QJo against ATo. No help left us with six. Luis got into the action doubling through Becky when he flopped the nuts on a board of 9-8-5. Becky was stunned to find her set of 9s behind his straight. Stephanie was eliminated as we saw three players allin before the flop. Stephanie tabled AJ, Luis pocket eights, and Rick AK. A board of 6-T-3-8-A left Stephaine out in the cold. Luis was not long for the game though, losing a race with eights again. Drew caught a King to match the one in his hand and leave us four handed. Rick was eliminated when his KJs got no help agains Steve's pocket threes, and Drew followed soon after when he caught bootom pair angainst Steve's middle pair, leaving us heads-up. |

Steve and Becky were now almost even in chips. Steve moved ahead, but lost his lead when he ran top pair against Becky's set, which became quads for good measure on the river. But Steve was able to chip himself back, and the the crippling blow came when he caught top pair with ATd and was willing put put it against Becky's QJc. She had a lot of outs when the board showed Jh-4s-Ac-6c, but the seven of spades was not one of them. Down to only $5,000 she moved all-in and won, but on the next hand A5s wouldn't hold up to KJo, with a flopped Jack making Steve our champion.
Steve won $50, Becky and Drew both won free pizzas from Papa Johns, and our top 10 finishers all won a pair of tickets to an Austin Toros' home game. The Toros are the local NBDL franchise, and live at Riata as well.
