It had been a while since our last poker night, but we had 60 players ready to go at 6:30. The action started slow, but we had a flurry of bust outs until we got down to two tables. It took another 40 minutes to get us down to eight. Peter Greenlaw set a record with his 3rd final table! Our only woman was out quickly in 8th but that also tied the record for most final tables by a woman. The hand that made it possible for Sam to win it all was a big one. Sam got his money in preflop, and David and Alex got the rest in after a flop of Js 2h 3h. Sam showed 6s7s, David had the red queens, and Alex showed his flopped set of twos. Fate shined on Sam, though, putting runner runner spades out to triple him up, and knocking David out in 7th. Sam then hit a flush to put out Jim, who had started the final table as chip leader. It took another 30 minutes to get us to heads up between Sam and Mike, who had been two of the three smallest stacks when we started.

Sam had the chip lead with $52,500 to Mike's $38,000, and it didn't take long for them to get it all in the middle. With Sam holding the king and queen of spades, and Mike holding T9o, both players showed their hands on a board of 8s Ts Ac Th. With one card to come, Sam was looking for a spade that wasn't an ace or a nine, but the jack of clubs worked just as well, giving him the gutshot straight and the win. First prize was $50, and 2nd through 6th each picked up a bottle of wine, all courtesy of RIATA.
